Waterproof Soft Cooler Care Instructions
Our waterproof Soft Coolers are built with fully waterproof materials and a leakproof zipper—but like any high-performance gear, it performs best with proper care. A few simple habits after each trip keep the zipper gliding, the materials holding up, and the cooler performing the way it should for the long run.
Built for a leakproof seal, the zipper may feel more resistant. Open and close it slowly, and lubricate regularly.
Keep the zipper gliding smoothly with regular applications of RTIC Zipper Lubricant.
Use loose ice or ice packs with waterproof zipper coolers. For non-waterproof zipper coolers, use ice packs only.
Air dry completely with the lid open before storing. Store in a cool, dry place away from heat to help prevent mold and mildew.
How to Clean Your Waterproof Soft Cooler:
Handwash the cooler with a solution of mild soap and warm water, especially before first use. To remove tough stains, use baking soda and water. Be sure to clean it after each use, especially when exposed to salt water.
A few things to always avoid:- Hand wash only — no dishwasher
- No boiling water
- No microwaving
Keep the cooler away from open flames, chemicals, acids, and strong alkalis.
How to Dry Your Waterproof Cooler Properly:
After cleaning, leave the lid fully open and let the cooler air dry completely before storing. Any trapped moisture accelerates mold and mildew growth, particularly in the zipper track and interior lining.
Never store a cooler with the lid closed while it’s still damp inside.
How to Properly Store Your Waterproof Soft Cooler:
Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. UV exposure may fade the exterior color over time but will not affect performance or waterproofing. For long-term storage, leave the lid slightly open to allow airflow and prevent odor buildup.
A few additional storage tips:- Do not drag the cooler on the ground—always carry it by the handles
- Do not submerge or leave in standing water for extended periods
- Keep away from hot surfaces, open flames, and chemical exposure

The RTIC EZ Waterproof Zipper is what makes this cooler fully leakproof and keeping it in good condition is simple. Apply RTIC Zipper Lubricant regularly to keep the zipper gliding smoothly and prevent the teeth from stiffening over time, especially after saltwater exposure or heavy use.
Always zip the cooler fully closed when in use to maintain the airtight seal. A partially closed zipper lets cold air out and compromises ice retention.
How to apply RTIC Zipper Lubricant:- Wipe the zipper with a damp paper towel and let it air dry.
- Carefully apply lubricant lightly on the docking end and across the entire length of the teeth, front and back.
- Unzip and rezip the zipper back and forth 1-2 times until lubricant is distributed. Wipe excess clean.
- Repeat as often as needed to maintain a smooth, easy pull.
