How to Maximize Your Fabric Soft Cooler's Ice Retention

Easy to pack, easy to zip, and built for daily adventure—our Fabric Soft Coolers offer effortless portability wherever you're headed. To stretch your ice retention from a few hours to up to a full day, it all comes down to preparation. Use these proven packing tips to lock in the cold on your next outing.

These tips apply whether you’re heading to the beach, the sideline, or a weekend campsite. The goal is the same: keep things cold longer, open the cooler less, and get the most out of your gear.

RTIC COOLING TIPS

These are the habits that make the biggest difference. Follow them before you pack, while you’re out, and when you get back — and your cooler will perform closer to its rated ice retention every time.

PRE-CHILL YOUR PROVISIONS

Chill all food and drinks in the fridge or freezer for a few hours—or ideally overnight—before packing. Putting warm items into the cooler wastes energy and melts ice packs faster.

FOLLOW THE 2:1 RULE

Use twice the amount of ice packs as pre-chilled food and drinks that you’re packing. The ice packs you have, the better it will keep the internal temperature of your cooler chilled.

USE ICE PACKS ONLY

Standard Zipper Soft Coolers feature non-welded fabric zippers, use ice packs or gel packs rather than loose, melting ice to prevent water from seeping through the fabric.

LOCK IN THE COLD

Zip the lid closed and keep your cooler in a shaded place out of direct sunlight.
